ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL — August 8, 2011 11
8. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
None.
9. COUNCIL COMMENTS & STAFF UPDATES
Councilmember Tamble stated the Communications Subcommittee met to discuss the website
survey. He stated any residents interested in participating should contact City Hall.
Councilmember Werner stated he had attended several of the Night to Unite events and it had
been a good experience and an opportunity to meet residents.
Councilmember Holden asked if the pothole on Arden View Drive had been repaired.
City Administrator Klaers stated this has been repaired.
Councilmember Holden stated she would like to have information posted on the City's website
regarding the number of events a stadium could be expected to host and the number of attendees
that could be expected based on what the Metrodome has done in the past. She also requested the
City put traffic information on the City's website in regards to the estimated heavy traffic times
for events at the proposed stadium.
Councilmember Holden stated there had been interest at the Open House on August 4 to have
the TCAAP property be park or open space. She clarified the City had passed a resolution two
years ago supporting this. The City did get the Rice Creek trailhead area as the north part of this
site and the County trail, but there had not been any support from residents to have the TCAAP
property as open space or park space at that time. She also requested that a copy of the superfund
site map and the map provided by Mr. Tolaas be put on the City's website.
Councilmember Holden stated people still have the notion that a mixed-use development was
the best plan for the TCAAP property. She explained the mixed -use plan was fundamentally
flawed and it would be a financial drain on the City of Arden Hills. It would have needed to be
very high density in order to work. She stated plans change and the plan that may have worked
before is not the plan that will work today. She stated she is fundamentally against paying for a
stadium but if the stadium proposal is going to be passed then she will have to look at what it can
do for Arden Hills as a whole.
Councilmember Holmes stated she had been out on Night to Unite as well and attended several
gatherings including one hosted by Councilmember Tamble.
Councilmember Holmes requested a discussion regarding the Army National Guard AHATS
TACC (Training Community Center) be added to a future City Council work session. She
suggested Staff meet with Mr. Hammernick regarding their plans.
Councilmember Holmes stated there would be a meeting with Minnesota Pollution Control
Agency on Wednesday, August 10, about the TCAAP site.
