ACTIVE LIVING RAMSEY COUNTY(ALRC) 1,000 BENCHES PROGRAM
Application information for the 1,000 benches program was distributed to the Commission members.
Commission members were asked to bring the applications back to their communities and promote the
program. ALRC will pick up half the cost of the installed benches. Each bench location will cost between
$1200 and $1300. To date, 20 benches have been funded. Seven benches are installed in New Brighton
and 13 in the Rondo neighborhood of St. Paul. The benches are made with recycled plastic slats, cast
aluminum frames, and installed on concrete slabs. 12 x 12 bricks are set in concrete and include
inspirational messages and sponsorship information. The program will take some promotion to get going.
TAMARACK NATURE CENTER DESTINATION FOR DISCOVERY MASTER PLAN
Copies of the Master Plan were distributed to Commission members on August 14, 2007. Chair Straumann
asked if members had reviewed the plan and if there were questions. Commission members expressed
support for the plan.
Ms. Pederson moved, seconded by Ms. Petersen,to support Tamarack Nature Center's Destination
for Discovery Master Plan. Motion carried.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
♦ Working with Public Works on constructing Lower Afton Trail between Century Avenue and McKnight
Road.
