EN HILLS
CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
PARKS, TRAILS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING
TUESDAY,MAY 15, 2012
ARDEN HILLS CITY HALL
CALL MEETING TO ORDER
Chair Garretson called the May 15, 2012, meeting of the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Committee to
order at 6:38 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Garretson, Committee Members Don Messerly, Phil Kramlinger,
Harold Petersen, Steve Scott,Nancy O'Malley and Chuck Michaelson.
Committee Member Jane Larson arrived at 6:45 p.m.
OTHERS PRESENT: Parks and Recreation Manager Michelle Olson.
ABSENT: Committee Members John Peck and Rich Straumann.
1. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Ms. Olson indicated that Committee Member Peck asked that the Valentine Park Picnic Shelter be
added under New Business.
MOTION: Committee Member Kramlinger motioned to approve the agenda as amended
seconded by Committee Member Michaelson. The motion carried unanimously
(7-0).
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES—April 17, 2012
MOTION: Committee Member Michaelson motioned to approve the April 17, 2012, minutes,
seconded by Committee Member O'Malley. The motion carried unanimously(7-0).
3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Trail Si2nne
Ms. Olson reviewed that at the previous meeting the committee discussed the three sign
options and there had been some questions which she has now researched. Ms. Olson
indicated that for Option#2 she asked that the number system shown on the sample be
replaced with the Arden Hills logo. The designer, however, had reservations about including
the Arden Hills words into the sign because of the detail and suggested just having the tree.
Ms. Olson indicated the sign material is very durable and that the signs have a 15-20 year life
span. Ms. Olson mentioned that she included some information about the covering of the sign,
called the Tuff Cover, and that most graffiti can be removed from the material. The total for
the cedar posts would be approximately $15 per post and Vacker Sign indicated that the posts
would not need to be cemented since they are down deep enough. Ms. Olson indicated that it
would not be that expensive if it is decided to add cement and staff could install them. Vacker
Sign estimated that it would be approximately$45 to replace a sign if one is damaged.
