Plans and Specifications for this project have been completed
including a construction cost estimate.
Upgrading lift stations is the staff's highest priority of capital improvement since the failures at
the stations can result in costly repairs and potential damage to residences. Upgraded stations
include 5 year warranties on mechanical parts, use less electricity and generate fewer alarms and
maintenance requirements which ultimately result in additional savings to the city(estimated
$2,500—$5,000 per year in material, electricity and manpower per station). By reconstructing the
stations in groups we intend to realize additional savings of capital costs over completion
individually. The lift stations included with this project are the final four stations still operating
with 1960's equipment (although they have had many repairs and parts changes over the years).
Project Description
Lift Stations#1,#11,#12 and#13 are the Cities final four old "steel can" structures built in the
early 1960's. These stations are being proposed for reconstruction due to their age, condition and
need to add efficiency to the City's lift station maintenance operations. The method for
reconstruction for these lift stations will follow that of Lift Station#4 and#9 during this past
summer and of other previous lift station reconstruction processes. A temporary bypass pump
will first be installed from an adjacent sanitary manhole into the forcemam to keep the system
running during construction. The existing lift station structures and control panel will then be
removed and the new pumping system and electrical system will be installed. The bypass is
removed once City staff approves the system and the new lift station is then brought on-line.
R:L31809905\DOCUMENTS\Word\Misc\Auth for Ad 11-4-05_doc
