EN HILLS <br /> HILLS <br /> CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> PARKS,TRAILS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING <br /> TUESDAY,DUNE 19,2012 <br /> ARDEN HILLS CITY HALL <br /> CALL MEETING TO ORDER <br /> Chair Garretson called the June 19, 2012,meeting of the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Committee to <br /> order at 5:05 p.m. <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Garretson, Committee Members Don Messerly, Phil Kramlinger, <br /> Harold Petersen, Steve Scott,Nancy O'Malley, Jane Larson, Rich Straumann,John Peck and Chuck <br /> Michaelson. <br /> OTHERS PRESENT: Parks and Recreation Manager Michelle Olson and Acting Council Liaison <br /> Fran Holmes. <br /> 1. APPROVAL OF AGENDA <br /> MOTION: Committee Member Messerly motioned to approve the agenda seconded by <br /> Committee Member O'Malley. The motion carried unanimously (10-0). <br /> 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES—May 15,2012 <br /> MOTION: Committee Member Michaelson motioned to approve the May 15,2012,minutes, <br /> seconded by Committee Member O'Malley. The motion carried unanimously(10-0). <br /> 3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> A. Trail Sianne Update <br /> Ms. Olson reported that Council approved going forward with the design of the 20 signs <br /> but the 20 sign locations and proposed maps would yet need to be approved by Council <br /> before going to production. She indicated that she and the Assistant City Engineer are <br /> working on finalizing the trail segments. <br /> Acting Council Liaison Holmes indicated she had concerns about the signs in that she <br /> feels if a person is in an unfamiliar area, a sign does not help as they are difficult to figure <br /> out and feels they should have a purpose. She stated that on Venus Avenue,where the <br /> trail ends and does not pick up again, it should indicated trail ends so that a person knows <br /> it does not start again. Another example would be for trails that go through people's <br /> yards. Ms. Olson indicated that many of these trails are no longer accessible since people <br /> have put up retaining walls and such and for those that are still accessible, an Arden Hills <br /> marker could be put up. <br /> Acting Council Liaison Holmes also commented that the Elmer L. Andersen signs the <br /> City currently have are different than the ones the PTRC is now proposing and she feels <br /> the signs should be consistent. Committee Member Straumann stated the current signs <br /> are unique to the Elmer L.Andersen trail. Committee Member Peck indicated that the <br />
