Two added improvements NOT included in the proposed project and are not recommended by
staff are:
1. Paint the outside of the hockey rink — This will be $1,500 for the paint and one
week of labor time for one staff member. Once the outside of the rink is painted, it
will need to be redone every 1-2 years. If painting is an improvement that the
committee still would like to recommend, staff suggests painting the outside with a
forest green color.
2. Plexiglas on each end of the hockey rink— Staff received a quote for $1,554.73 per
sheet plus $750 shipping. It is estimated that we would need 12 sheets for a total of
$18,656.76. The maintenance of the rink would be affected by adding Plexiglas
because our staff dumps snow over the boards on each end and the fencing allows
that. Plexiglas on each end would make the snow removal process more difficult.
Staff placed a Freeway Park Improvement Project (Attachment C) into the proposed Capital
Improvement Plan that was reviewed by Council at their Monday, November 19t' work session.
Since the committee had not defined specific recommendations for park improvements at
Freeway Park before the project was submitted, staff did not provide detailed information.
However, if this project remains in the CIP, the committee will need to work on providing
specific details in order to move forward to Council. If the PTRC would like to increase the
$7,500 project costs, the committee will need to decide if they would like to recommend the
project in 2013 or wait until 2014.
Requested Action
Staff provided this information for the PTRC to begin preparing a recommendation for 2013-
2014 for Council to consider.
11202012 Freeway Park Improvement Discussion.doc
