Parks,Trails&Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes October 16,2012 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Council Liaison Holden reported that the Council reviewed the fee schedule at their <br /> meeting last night and made the decision to NOT allow intramural/club soccer/flag <br /> football/rugby field rental in our parks. The City has experienced the fields being torn <br /> up and the fees do not cover the staff time to repair. The City will continue to rent the <br /> softball fields. <br /> Council Liaison Holden announced that the new City website will go live on December <br /> 7, 2012. <br /> B. Public Works/Parks & Recreation Report <br /> Parks and Recreation Manager Olson reported that at the last PTRC meeting, the <br /> committee was interested in having the entrance trail to Cummings Park(from Fair Isaac) <br /> improved. She indicated that staff is looking at a plan to remove all remaining park <br /> gates. In addition, staff would like to landscape around those areas to ensure they look <br /> like trail entries versus roads and to be more aesthetically pleasing for users. <br /> 4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> A. Trail Signage Update <br /> Parks and Recreation Manager Olson indicated the trail maps have been finalized and are <br /> in production. Staff included the final maps in the packet for review. The posts should <br /> be installed this week. <br /> Committee Member Michaelson asked if the posts were being installed with concrete. <br /> Ms. Olson indicated that all posts will be installed with concrete. <br /> Ms. Olson anticipates the actual trail maps to be completed this week and installed within <br /> the next two weeks. <br /> Committee Member Peck asked if all map locations have been marked and checked out <br /> by staff. Ms. Olson indicated that she and the Public Works Superintendent went out <br /> and located all of the signs. <br /> B. Buckthorn Removal Day <br /> Ms. Olson recapped that at last month's meeting,the committee decided to again do a <br /> buckthorn removal project on the 271h of October from 9:00-1:00 p.m. at Hazelnut Park. <br /> Ms. Olson indicated that they will meet at 8:50 on October 271h and that she had sent a <br /> flyer to the neighbors around the park and the Trinity Lutheran Cub Scout group. She <br /> also asked that since the City has a limited amount of tools that the members bring as <br /> many tools as possible (saws, root pullers). <br /> Committee Member Larson indicated that each buckthorn stump needed to be treated in <br /> order to avoid spreading. In addition,the berries should be removed before chipping or <br /> it will just spread the seedlings. Ms. Olson indicated that it is difficult to remove the <br /> berries before chipping in these large spread removal projects. Ms. Larson indicated she <br /> could head up removing the berries for the project. <br />
