Parks,Trails&Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes December 18,2012
Page 2
note of that and will make the change. Committee Member Petersen questioned whether
the committee tabled the off leash dog park. It was indicated the group did table the
item. Committee Member Petersen stated he felt discussion of the off leash dog park
should be revisited. Ms. Olson indicated she would put the off leash dog park on the
work plan and then see if Council would like the committee to research further.
Discussion ensued on the off leash dog park.
Committee Member Michaelson suggested getting input from the Communications
Committee on future articles they would like for the newsletter. Ms. Olson indicated the
Communications Committee is interested in giving suggestions for the articles so there is
some variety. It was questioned if the PTRC should continue to submit the articles
monthly. Ms. Olson indicated the committee could skip a month if they have a problem
coming up with a topic. She indicated she would change Item 10 to read"prepare regular
articles" versus "prepare monthly articles." Ms. Olson stated she feels all the articles that
have been submitted contained valuable information. Discussion ensued on the
newsletter articles.
Committee Member Peck suggested they present an article outlining what the PTRC will
be working on in 2013 and Committee Member Petersen suggested an article about
Arden Manor. It was the consensus of the committee that these would be good articles
for the newsletter.
Ms. Olson reported there was actually one year left for the bench implementation project
but that Council decided to take this out of the CIP since they feel there are enough
benches at present. Council also took out the Freeway Park enhancements but this could
be put back in the CIP for 2014 and will be a point of discussion at the joint meeting.
Ms. Olson indicated that if the committee felt this should be moved up to 2013,they
should present to Council. It was the consensus of the committee that this goal be moved
up to 2013.
Ms. Olson questioned Committee Member Larson about what she wanted to see
regarding the park bathrooms. Committee Member Larson indicated she would like to
see something permanent with a nice exterior that is not plastic. Ms. Larson stated that
she realizes plumbing is a problem but feels they could look at commercial toilets that do
not require plumbing. Committee Member Peck asked if it would be feasible to have a
plumbed facility at Hazelnut Park since they have an irrigation system. Ms. Olson stated
that this would be an option for the PTRC to suggest for the CIP. She indicated she feels
Hazelnut is a highly used park and the committee could suggest a building similar to the
one at Cummings Park with indoor bathrooms. It was the consensus of the committee to
add this as a potential project. Ms. Olson recapped the potential projects suggested: an
off-leash dog park, Hazelnut building upgrade, Freeway Park enhancements, accessibility
for parks and trails, buckthorn eradication process, upgraded bathrooms in parks, paper
free PTRC packets, County Road E trail on north side, resident survey and/or updated
open space plan and recreation program input.
y
