lt
EN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: January 28, 2013
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
Patrick Klaers, City Administrator
FROM: Terry Maurer, Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Proposals for Engineering Services
South Water Tower Rehabilitation
BacklZround
In 2012 both of the City's water towers were fully inspected. The recommendations
coming from these inspections were that the South Water Tower should be completely
rehabilitated inside and out within the next two years. There were also several minor
structural items that were noted that need to be addressed. This project was programmed
in the 2013 CIP at an estimated cost of$900,000 (attached is the CIP sheet).
This type of project needs specialized engineering and inspection services so staff
requested proposals from three engineering firms of Bolton and Menk (BMI), SEH, and
WSB. All three responded to the request with proposals that reflected an understanding
of the project and a team capable of completing the work. After carefully reviewing the
fees proposed by each firm to ensure there was an "apples to apples" comparison, the
following table reflects the proposed fees from each firm.
FIRM
TASK BMI WSB SEH
Pre-Design Phase $ 1,900 $ 750 $ 1,100
Design Services $ 6,300 $ 7,500 $ 9,250
Construction Services, $35,600 $34,800 $30,100
Management&
Inspection
Antenna Services $ 5,000 $ 4,000 $ 7,000
Warrantee Inspection Included Above $ 2,800 $ 3,200
$48,800 $49,880 $50,650
City Council Meeting
C:\Users\sonja.klingberg\Desktop\1-28-13 South Water Tower Proposals.doc
Page 1 of 2
