AGENDA ITEM MEMORANDUM DATE: February 19, 2013 Honorable Mayor and City Council TO: Patrick Klaers, City Administrator Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager FROM: SUBECT: Park Events Requested Action Staff provided this information for Council review and discussion. Staff recommends that the Council give staff direction on what type of event they would like for the reopening of Valentine Park in 2013. If Council would like to run more events than that, staff recommends moving forward slowly on the various events in order to be able to gauge the success. Background At the October 15, 2012 City Council Work Session, staff presented a recap of the 2012 Celebrating Arden Hills Event with a budget summary. After reviewing the event, Council asked staff to research options for the future of the annual event and bring back for further discussion. After reviewing the options presented by staff at the November 26, 2012 City Council meeting, the City celebration for 2013 and to schedule a discussion at a future work session on whether or not to offer other type of smaller events in 2013 and beyond. Options presented at the November Council work session included: Outdoor movies on an inflatable screen in the park, concerts in the park, fireworks only or a combination of these. The memo of options (Attachment A) and minutes (Attachment B) from the meeting are included for Council review. Staff put together the following list of possible events in 2013 and/or years to come: Event Option 1.A: Valentine Park Grand re-opening Ribbon Cutting (Summer, 2013) Valentine Park is set to reopen early summer, 2013.
