Job Losses from Business Dissolutions Remained Low
Since the summer of 1994, Minnesota businesses maintained low rates of job loss from
business dissolutions in all seven regions. There were fewer manufacturing business
• dissolutions during this quarter (59 businesses) and most losses occurred in the Twin Cities
area (42 businesses). However, business closings were prevalent among small retail trade and
service companies.
Major contractions among business service companies and amusement and recreation
businesses led to a doubling of job losses in the service industry during this quarter. The ' a
Central region and Twin Cities area had the highest rates of job loss from major business
contractions.
3rd Quarter, 1995
Low Rates of Job Loss from Business Dissolutions Since Summer
1994
1 -
o _
Percent of
Wage and -0.3 -0.2 -0.3 -0.2 -0.2 -0.2 -0.2 -0.3
Salary Jobs
-1
• -2
Statewide Northwest West Central Northeast Southwest Central Southeast Twin Cities
Region Region Region Region Region Region Area
Rate of Job Loss from Business Contractions Increased in All Regions
1 --
I
0
Wage and = -
Salary Jobs
Percent of
-0.7 -0.7
-1 -0.9 - -1.0 -0.9
-2
Statewide Northwest West Central Northeast Southwest Central Southeast Twin Cities
Region Region Region Region Region Region Area
•
5
