Downsizing by Large Manufacturers Eased During this Quarter Major business contraction eased among computer and electronic product manufacturers in the Southeast region, but business start-up and major expansion by other manufacturers also • slowed considerably during this quarter. Printing and publishing and fabricated metals manufactures produced most of the expansion jobs in the manufacturine sector. Large business expansion in retail trade and service industries compensated for a drop in expansion jobs in manufacturing. However, fewer business start-ups during this quarter created 25 percent fewer jobs in the region, while increased business dissolutions doubled the job Southeast losses from the previous quarter.
