�n Brisk Business Expansion Continued from the Previous Quarter 1 Brisk business expansion created 67 percent more jobs than the previous quarter. while • business contraction held steady. Services. manufacturing and retail trade were the large sources of expansion jobs. The number of start-up businesses and new jobs in this region did not change significantly from the previous quarter. Fewer business closings cut job losses by more than half. particularly in retail trade and service industries. Sixty percent of expansion jobs in manufacturing were in fabricated metals. industrial Central machinery. electrical and electronic equipments. and transportation equipment. Resource-based Region manufacturers such as food products, wood products. and concrete products contributed the remaining 40 percent expansion jobs in manufacturing. In the services industry, educational 3rd Quarter, 1994 services. amusement and recreation. and business services were major sources of expansion jobs.
