Services. manufacturing and retail trade were the large <br /> sources of expansion jobs. The number of start-up businesses and new jobs in this region did <br /> not change significantly from the previous quarter. Fewer business closings cut job losses by <br /> more than half. particularly in retail trade and service industries. <br /> Sixty percent of expansion jobs in manufacturing were in fabricated metals. industrial <br /> Central machinery. electrical and electronic equipments. and transportation equipment. Resource-based <br /> Region <br /> manufacturers such as food products, wood products. and concrete products contributed the <br /> remaining 40 percent expansion jobs in manufacturing.
