Food Manufacturing Boosted by Good Farming Season -� <br /> Compared to the cold and wet 1993 crop season. food weather in 1994 boosted employment <br /> in the large food manufacturing industry. About 69 percent of expansion jobs in <br /> manufacturing were created in food processing and vegetable canning. <br /> • New jobs from business start-ups increased 18 percent from the previous quarter, while job <br /> loss from business closings declined by 45 percent. Major expansions created 31 percent more <br /> jobs this quarter, while 66 percent fewer jobs were lost through contractions. Manufacturing <br /> was the largest source of expansion jobs (45 percent), followed by services (26 percent) and Southeast <br /> local government (16 percent). In the service industry, health services, education and business i Region <br /> services were large sources of expansion jobs.
