Business Start-ups Rebounded <br /> With an improved economy, the number of business start-ups and new jobs rebounded from <br /> the previous quarter. Business closings and job losses declined in various industries. Due in <br /> part to keen competition. there were fewer retail trade expansions in the region. Prior . <br /> downsizing had also already reduced the retail business workforce. Many industries including <br /> temporary help agencies. health services. educational. social and professional services did <br /> increase expansion hiring. <br /> Twin Cities Manufacturing and the related wholesale trade sector continued to expand at last quarter's <br /> Area <br /> pace. In contrast. rising interest rates depressed activity in the finance, insurance and real <br /> estate industry.
