Business Start-ups Rebounded With an improved economy, the number of business start-ups and new jobs rebounded from the previous quarter. Business closings and job losses declined in various industries. Due in part to keen competition. there were fewer retail trade expansions in the region. Prior . downsizing had also already reduced the retail business workforce. Many industries including temporary help agencies. health services. educational. social and professional services did increase expansion hiring. Twin Cities Manufacturing and the related wholesale trade sector continued to expand at last quarter's Area pace. In contrast. rising interest rates depressed activity in the finance, insurance and real estate industry. Several construction companies and defense-related businesses reduced their 3rd Quarter, 1994 workforce during this quarter.
