CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: August 16, 1995 <br /> TO: Economic Development Committee <br /> FROM: Kevin Ringwald, Community Development Director <br /> SUBJECT: Minnesota Business Tracking System, Quarterly Report <br /> Attached the Committee will find the Quarterly Report of the Minnesota Business Tracking <br /> System. The report was prepared by the Minnesota Department of Trade Economic <br /> Development(DTED). <br /> The DTED Business Tracking Report (BTR) examines the dynamics of business growth and <br /> decline in Minnesota, providing a better understanding of the process of job creation and of the <br /> competitive position of the various regions of the state. The BTR documents the ebb and flow of <br /> business activity in Minnesota by tracking business start-ups and failures, and major expansions <br /> and contractions around the state. <br /> While net employment change statistics are widely available and very useful, they do reveal the <br /> "churning" of business activity as jobs are created and lost in the economy. Information about <br /> this underlying activity provides a clearer picture of the vigor of Minnesota's regional economies. <br /> The BTR also tracks Minnesota manufactures that have ceased operations in Minnesota, including <br /> those that have moved out of the state to determine the cause of those dissolutions or relocations. <br /> This information is provided only for your information. <br /> KR:jt <br /> • <br />
