<br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: June 17, 2013 <br /> <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members <br /> Patrick Klaers, City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Sue Iverson, Director of Finance and Administrative Services <br /> Kyle Howard, Finance Analyst <br /> <br />SUBJECT: 2014 2018 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />As part of the 2014 budget process, a five-year capital improvement plan is prepared. <br />Staff prepared the preliminary CIP for Council discussion as part of this process. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Staff last discussed the CIP as a whole with the City Council at the November work <br />session and approved the 2013-2017 plan in December. Since that time, staff has <br />discussed various items with Council at work sessions. <br /> <br />Staff has added 2018 to the plan and updated any changes in the plan or the cost <br />estimates since the Council last saw the 2013-2017 CIP. A summary of major changes is <br />as follows: <br /> <br /> <br />1.Added play structure replacements in 2018, per the replacement schedule in the <br />Park Maintenance Plan. <br /> <br /> <br />2.Removed the park amenity item because it was reduced last year to $3,000 and <br />this expense will be put into the General Fund. <br /> <br /> <br />3.Added the Valentine Park Pathway that the City applied for funding through the <br />DNR Local Trail Connection Grant Program. The awards are scheduled to be <br />announced sometime in July. <br /> <br /> <br />4.Added Freeway Park Enhancements after Council gave the PTRC direction to put <br />this request in the CIP for consideration. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />City Council Meeting <br />P:\Admin\Council\Agendas & Packet Information\2013\06-17-13-WS\CIP\Memo.docx <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />
