Phase 3 <br />A series of major projects are planned to celebrate Bethel’s ses <br />in 2021. Perhaps the most important project in the Bethel campus <br />master plan is a new Science Center. Driving this project is the need for <br />space to accommodate current programs and provide room for grow <br />Furthermore, the Science Center is the physical link between the <br />campus core and the facilities on the north side that will becom <br />meeting undergraduate growth needs. Finally, this new facility a <br />relocation of a large existing function that frees up the space <br />truly reorganize the campus. While detailed programming is neede <br />facility is planned at around 130,000 square feet based on the p <br />offered or under consideration and based on the size of comparab <br />centers. Programs in biology, chemistry, physics, environment st <br />math computer science, and psychology are included. The center w <br />house eleven general assignment classrooms ranging from seminar <br />to lecture halls. Designers will determine how best to connect t <br />Center to the Brushaber Commons. The center will be designed in <br />that provides outstanding learning environments for the sciences <br />New athletic facilities improve the experience of student athletes, related <br />academic programs, and students seeking additional recreational <br />intramural opportunities. A new 20,000 square foot 2,500 seat co <br />gym is added to the north side of the Sports and Recreation Cent <br />This facility will be the home court for basketball and volleyba <br />additional indoor practice space, allowing the existing gym to b <br />recreation and intramurals. A 57,000 square foot addition to the <br />team rooms and becomes the primary home of the athletics departm <br />(about 40,000 square feet of the total). Four general assignment <br />(one for 24 students, two for 36, and one for 50) and space for <br />program growth are included in the new addition. <br />Several actions complete the upgrade of the student residential experience. <br />A new four-story residence hall for 275 students is constructed <br />of Lissner Hall, aimed at upper-class students and their transit <br />independent living. Since a particular goal of this project is c <br />intentional experience for sophomores, spaces inside and out sho <br />focused on creating shared community between the two halls.
