NEW BUSINESS

MEMORANDUM

DATE: August 26, 2013

TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
Patrick Klaers, City Administrator

FROM: Terry Maurer, Public Works Director

SUBJECT: -

Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source:
none $16,969.53 Equipment/Building
Replacement Fund

Requested Action

-
mowers ahead of the schedule anticipated in the 2013-2017 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).

Background/Discussion

In March 2011 the Council authorized the purchase of two Toro Z590-D -
through the State contract. The mowers have 72 inch decks and have become the workhorse of
our fleet for grass mowing, each logging over 700 hours in a little over two and one half years.
In 2011 the City paid $13,998.96 for each mower.

These mowers have a 4 year/1200 hour warranty that is transferable. Also, next year the Federal
emissions regulations get down to this size of motor. In talking to Eric at LTG Power
Equipment, the State contract vendor, he expects the price of this model to raise $3,500-$4,000
in 2014 due to these regulations. Due to this, we asked LTG Power Equipment to provide a
quote based on the State contract price for two new Toro Z590-D mowers with the old ones as a
trade-in.

Eric at LTG Power Equipment provided the attached quote which indicates that for $16,969.53,
including the trade-in of our two mowers, the City can acquire two new mowers. The State
contract price per mower is $14,718.96. This is 28% off of the retail price, so the two trade-ins
are essentially equal to one new mower.
12
Page of
