AGENDA ITEM - 1A

MEMORANDUM

DATE: January 21, 2014

TO:Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers

Patrick Klaers, City Administrator

FROM: Terry Maurer, Public Works Director

SUBJECT:Public Works Presentation

Background

Once again this year we hope to have the entire Public Works staff attend the work
session. For some of our staff, it is the only time they get to see the Council and vice
versa. For Darien Schifsky, this will be his first time attending as he was hired in 2013
after the retirement of Pete Saxe. As in the past, we can start with a brief tour of our
facility to show the work areas.

We will have a PowerPoint presentation highlighting accomplishments in 2013, our
movement towards more use of technology in our day-to-day operations, a brief (10
minute) video about infrastructure in the State of Minnesota followed by a discussion of
the condition of our infrastructure. Finally, we will present a list of special projects we
hope to accomplish in 2014. We would welcome any Council questions or comments
about these or any other items.
