CONSENT ITEM –5D <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE: <br />January 27, 2014 <br />TO: <br />Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br />Patrick Klaers, City Administrator <br />FROM: <br />Ryan Streff, City Planner <br />SUBJECT:Planning Case#14-007 <br />Applicant: <br />Boston Scientific <br />Property Location: <br />4100 Hamline Avenue <br />Request: <br />Temporary Walkway Extension <br />Requested Action <br />Motion to approve Planning Case 14-007for a five (5) year extension forthe use of the <br />temporary walkway between Building 3 and Building 10on the Boston Scientific Campus. <br />Background <br />The City Council approved a Site PlanReviewfor Guidant Corporation (now Boston Scientific) <br />on February 23, 2004, to construct a temporary walkwaybetween Building Land Building Ethat <br />are now referred to as Building 3and Building 10,respectively. <br />Thewalkway was constructed toprovide a safe at-grade crossing and sheltered environment for <br />employee’scrossing overInnovation Way between these two buildings. When approvedin <br />2004,it was planned that within five (5) years an addition would be added to Building 10, <br />Building K would be constructed,and a skyway would be built between the buildings, <br />eliminatingthe need for the temporary walkway. An agreement was drafted and signed between <br />Guidant Corporation and the City of Arden Hills that outlined the time table for the removal of <br />the walkway(Attachment B).The agreement for the temporary walkway was originally set to <br />expire on February 1, 2009; however, a five year extension was approved on November 24, <br />2008.
