 <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE:EDC Agenda Item 4.B <br />April 3, 2013 <br />TO: <br />Economic Development Commission Chair and Commissioners <br />FROM: <br />Jill Hutmacher, Community Development Director <br />SUBJECT: <br />State of the City <br />TheEDC helda business-focused State of the City event on September 12, 2011. The event was <br />held at North Heights Lutheran Church. Approximately 50 business owners and residents <br />attended the event in addition to City Councilmembers and staff. Councilmembers gave <br />presentations on the Vikings stadium proposal, the website redesign project, the City’s financial <br />managementand budget,road construction, and development projects.The event was well- <br />received, and attendees reported that it was informative. <br />Expenditures,paid from the EDA General Fund, included approximately $870 for advertising <br />and promotion and $1,800 for cateringand audio-visual services at North Heights. <br />The EDC chose not to hold a State of the City event in 2012 since Commissioners were <br />concerned that there was not a discussion topic, such asthe Vikings stadium, that would generate <br />significant interest among the business community.The EDC has indicated that it would like to <br />hold a 2013 State of the City at which information on the TCAAP project may be presented. <br />Discussion Questions: <br />1.When and where should the event be held in 2013? <br />2.What, if anything, should be done differently than was done in 2011? <br />City of Arden Hills <br />Economic Development Commission April 3, 2013 <br />11 <br />Page of <br />
