March 31, 2014
Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
Patrick Klaers, City Administrator
Terry Maurer, Public Works Director
Upgrading Camera System for Sewer Televising
$37,000.00$36,634.00Sanitary Sewer Utility Fund
Authorize the upgrading of the camera system for sewer televising by Flexible Pipe Tool
Company in the amount of $36,634.00
The 2014 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) includes an item for the upgrade of the camera system
used for sewer televising (a copy of the CIP item is attached). This is not a replacement of the
current trailer used for sewer televising but simply upgrading the equipment inside the trailer (the
same camera will be used). The upgraded equipment will prepare a digital report based on
observations noted during the televising. The video data can be automatically linked with the
sewer pipe in our GIS system eliminating many hours of manpower necessary to go through the
old disc recording method and attach each segment.
The City of Arden Hills maintains a free membership in the Minnesota Cooperative Purchasing
Venture Program (State Contract). This allows the City to participate in the State specifications
and bid prices, resulting in the City paying the same amount for a single piece of equipment as
the State does for numerous pieces.
Flexible Pipe Tool Company is the State contract vendor for camera trailers. Attached is a
listing of specific new equipment that would be installed in our current trailer from their State
contract pricing. The total cost is $36,634.00 which includes a $1,000.00 trade-in value for the
removed equipment.
Page of
