AGENDA ITEM <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE:March 18, 2014 <br />TO:Parks Trails and Recreation Committee <br />FROM:Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager <br />SUBJECT:Emerald Ash Borer Update <br />Requested Action <br />Staff provided the City Council with an Emerald Ash Borer Update (EAB) at their February 18, <br />2014 work session. After reviewing the information, Council consensus was toproceed with <br />chemical treatment on healthy ash trees within the maintained areas of our parks. Council <br />asked staff to review the update with the Parks Trails and Recreation Committee. <br />Background <br />Attached is the EAB update (Attachment A) provided by staff at the Council work session on <br />Tuesday, February 18. Trees in the maintained areas of the parks were evaluated by our current <br />tree contractor; Precision Landscaping to determine which ones would be good candidates for <br />treatment. Included in the EAB update are aerials of the parks and locations of the ash trees. <br />After looking at treatment, removal and replacement options, it was the consensus of the Council <br />to move forward on treatment of healthy ash trees in the maintained areas of our parks. <br />Treatment is scheduled for late May or early June, depending on the weather.The City <br />negotiated a private treatment price through Precision Landscaping. Arden Hills’residents can <br />receive a price of $7.00 per DBH (diameter at breast height) for 24” or less and $9.00 for 24” or <br />more.
