ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION –APRIL 21, 20144
Mr. Goodwin
reported that Eureka doeshave the ability at their plant to collect and manage
single stream recycling. He indicated that the City could move to carts at a later time. He
discussed the education process that needsto take place in order to move from dual to single
stream.
Councilmember Werner
questioned if the fees for recycling would increase if the City changed
to single stream.
Mr. Goodwin
stated that there couldbe a slight increasein the processing fees, but noted that
participation wouldlikelyincrease greatly, which would increase the amount of revenue share.
Councilmember Holmes
inquired if the City had to move to carts.
Mr. Goodwin
commented that the carts were easy and had a great deal of capacity. He noted that
there were smaller carts available for residents. He reportedthatthe carts were more efficient for
the drivers.
Further discussion ensued regarding the options available for recycling bins and pickup.
Councilmember Holden
was in favor of the Council selectingOption #1, maintaining the use of
the existing binswith staff completing the competitive bid processor RFPfor single stream
recycling between now and March 2015.
There was Council consensus to direct staff to proceed in this manner.
