<br />City of Arden Hills, Recycling RFP <br />October 2014 <br />Page 1 <br />CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> <br />SPECIFICATIONS FOR <br />COMPREHENSIVE RECYCLING SERVICES TO ALL <br />RESIDENTIAL SINGLE-UNIT HOUSEHOLDS <br />AND MULTI-UNIT HOUSEHOLDS <br /> <br />1. INTRODUCTION <br />The City of Arden Hills, Minnesota seeks to enter into a recycling contract with a company to <br />provide comprehensive residential recycling services for the City. Recycling services include <br />collection, processing, marketing and public education. <br /> <br />The City has contracted curbside recycling service for all one to four unit residential buildings <br />since 1992. In July, 2014 the City contractor began single stream recycling. Recyclables <br />Collection currently occurs weekly, on Tuesdays for properties south of I-694 and on <br />Wednesdays for properties north of I-694. The current contract ends on March 1, 2015; the new <br />contract will begin on March 2, 2015. <br /> <br />The goals of the City in the new contract are to cost-effectively maximize the recovery of <br />recyclables from all residents in the City, to market materials so they achieve their highest and <br />best use, to provide excellent customer service and to encourage innovation. <br /> <br />Arden Hills is a strong community that values its unique environmental setting, strong residential <br />neighborhoods, vital business community, well-maintained infrastructure, and fiscal soundness. <br />The City has a long-standing tradition as a desirable City in which to live, work, and play. The <br />health of the community and the environment is a priority for Arden Hills. Residents and <br />businesses take action in many ways to achieve this goal, including recycling and disposing of <br />waste in an appropriate and approved manner. <br /> <br />The community seeks to achieve the environmental aspects of the City vision by working to <br />advance the following goals in the 2030 Comprehensive Plan: <br />♦ Environmental Conservation and Sustainability – Promote conservation and sustainable <br />design practices in the preservation, development, redevelopment, and maintenance of the <br />City’s natural and built environment. <br />♦ Public Facilities, Infrastructure, and Services – Provide efficient and high-quality public <br />facilities, services and infrastructure. <br />♦ TCAAP Redevelopment – Develop TCAAP in a way that accommodates a mix of land uses <br />that is sensitive to the natural environment, economically sustainable, and of benefit to the <br />community. <br /> <br />
