The existing stairway has 4 steps that were originally about 8” each. There has been some settlement of the
entire stairway as well as a several inch drop in the sidewalk prior to the steps that we will try to “make up” with
fill and grading. So the maximum height of the retaining wall at the steps would be approximately 36”. The
portion of the retaining wall to the north of the steps will follow the same curved shape/location as the existing
wall and will taper down in height to conform to the shape of the lot and existing drainage. The portion of the
wall to the south of the steps that runs west along the property line will start at approx 36” and taper to conform
to the existing slope of the lot near the property border.

There is an existing sidewalk that diagonally crosses the yard area between the retaining wall and the house.
This sidewalk went to a side entrance that no longer exists and will be removed.
The current main drainage pathways for the lot run alongside the home. There is a good sized ditch along the
south side of the property where gutters and sump pumps discharge and water flows down the sidewalk to the
ditch. There is a small swail on the north side of the property between the homes that channels water on that
side from both homes toward the lake. The new retaining wall, stairs, and sidewalks should drain in the same
fashion.
After construction, black dirt and seed will be applied.
An example of the new retaining wall/stairway system is shown along with samples of the block
surface/colors. We currently like the Antique Bronze as an approximation of the original limestone.
