ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL—NOVEMBER 10, 2014 5
Mr. Thomas believed that the colored concrete would hold up and discussed the anomaly issues
with previous colored concrete batches.
Councilmember Holden requested further information on how the new light fixtures would be
spaced.
Mr. Thomas reported the light fixtures would be approximately 150 feet apart on each side of
the corridor.
Councilmember Holden asked if the Connelly curve driveway modifications could be excluded
from the project.
Public Works Director Maurer stated they could be excluded if the Council desired. He
indicated the current plans included the driveway modifications on Connelly but the work could
be completed in the future if the Council wanted to delay this work.
Mayor Grant opened the public hearing at 7:37 p.m.
Ronald Riach, 3900 Northwood Drive representing the Frattalone Hardware Store, stated
Frattelone's has recently purchased the Carroll's Furniture property. He looked forward to
revitalizing this property. He asked if the sidewalk improvement for the north side of County
Road E would extend into the Carroll's property.
Mr. Thomas reported that the sidewalk would stop at the east and west property lines of the
Carroll's Furniture property. He discussed in further detail the proposed sidewalk improvements
near the Carroll's property.
Dan Flaherty, Flaherty's Arden Bowl at 1273 County Road E West, questioned the cost of the
proposed improvements for Connelly Avenue driveway modifications.
Mr. Thomas estimated those expenses to be $21,000.
Mr. Flaherty did not believe the Connelly driveway improvements were necessary. He
explained that the restriping of this area has already improved the traffic concerns. He asked if
the existing trees along County Road E would be impacted.
Mr. Thomas commented these trees would remain in place and would not be impacted by the
proposed improvements.
Mayor Grant explained that the Council would be tabling action on this item due to the weather
and would be voting on the staff recommended Resolutions at the November 24th Council
meeting.
Councilmember Holden questioned if the Connelly roadway improvements were not completed
at this time, if the entire expense would be borne by the property owner in the future.
