AGENDA ITEM – 5E <br /> <br />City of Arden Hills <br />City Council Meeting for March 16, 2015 <br /> <br />P:\Planning\Recycling & Garbage\2015\RFP_Recycling Services\CC Packet_(2-23-15) - Contract Approval <br />Page 1 of 3 <br /> <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: March 16, 2015 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br /> Patrick Klaers, City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Ryan Streff, City Planner <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Residential Recycling Carts Discussion <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Requested Action <br /> <br />Provide feedback on the proposed recycling cart design and direct staff to move forward with the <br />placement of an order for the purchase of recycling carts from Cascade Cart Solutions. At the <br />regular City Council meeting on March 30, 2015, the Council will be asked to formally approve <br />the recycling cart purchase from Cascade. <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />On February 23, 2015, the City Council approved a five (5) year contract with Republic Services <br />for Residential Recycling Services. The new contract indicates that the City will purchase <br />recycling carts for each single-family dwelling to be distributed by Republic Services prior to the <br />start date of the recycling contract. The contract with Republic Services is set to begin on May <br />4, 2015. <br /> <br /> <br />Recycling Carts <br /> <br />The City applied for a Public Entity Innovation Grant (PEIG) through Ramsey County for <br />assistance with the purchase of residential recycling carts. On March 25, 2015, the City received <br />notice that a grant in the amount of $100,000 was approved by the PEIG Review Committee to <br />assist in the purchase of recycling carts for the Arden Hills Recycling Program. <br /> <br />Staff has since obtained recycling cart quotes from four (4) cart companies including Cascade <br />Cart Solutions, Otto Environmental Systems, Rehrig Pacific Company, and Toter Waste
