Karen Barton stated that there was no specific deadline we had to meet. Mayor Aplikowski • <br /> added that we did need to take the budget process into consideration though and should therefore <br /> have it reviewed no later than mid-November. <br /> Chair Kunkel asked if anyone had any substantive changes. None where presented. <br /> Chair Kunkel then suggested we move through the document by pages and asked for comments, <br /> thoughts or changes to the introduction? <br /> Jim Paulet asked if we agreed on the philosophy. Nancy Kneeland asked if this addresses the <br /> economic forces/influences in the document. <br /> Bruce Kunkel said that he felt it addressed not only the adding of jobs but which type of jobs. <br /> Jim Paulet stated that it addressees quantity versus quality. Chair Kunkel added that Arden Hills <br /> is in a great location at this point and time. <br /> Rob Davidson said that the theme he took out of this is that the City has historically been <br /> reactive and this emphasizes the need to become proactive—this is a blueprint for a <br /> philosophical change; a paradigm shift. <br /> Chair Kunkel added that we've got to prepare ourselves and our community to operate in a <br /> global economy. Nancy Kneeland added this is similar to the industrial revolution. <br /> Chris Ashbach stated that he like that the plan was sector-specific and that he liked the tools • <br /> listed on the first page of the executive summary. <br /> Chair Kunkel asked if there were any comments or concerns about the Development Strategies in <br /> a New Economy. <br /> Jim Paulet stated the idea of churn seemed a little cold. Mayor Aplikowski added that it is,but it <br /> is also a reality. Bruce Kunkel added that churn also speaks to Nancy Kneeland's comparison to <br /> the industrial revolution. It's a sad fact,but it is important to plan for. <br /> Ray McGraw said we need to get the Council to support and embrace change. Bruce Kunkel <br /> agreed stating that we need to bring the Council along. <br /> Nancy Kneeland suggested softening the language regarding churn and suggested we change <br /> "failures"to "changes". Bruce Kunkel agreed to the change. <br /> Chair Kunkel asked for comments relating to Page 6 of the plan. <br /> Bruce Kunkel stated that he felt it did not address partnerships with the school district and added <br /> that he feels this is very important. We must encourage the school district to change their focus <br /> to groom graduates to compete in the new global economy. <br /> Jim Paulet stated that he felt it did address the schools through the business community. Dale • <br /> Beane agreed. Nancy Kneeland said that if there is a question in our minds, we should make the <br /> 2 <br />
