EN HILLS
. CITY OF ARDEN HILLS,MINNESOTA
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
August 23, 2006 7:30 A.M.
CITY HALL-- 1245 WEST HIGHWAY 96
Bruce Kunkel called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m.
Those in attendance: Bruce Kunkel, Jim Paulet, Dale Beane, Rob Davidson, Nancy Kneeland,
Kevin Kelly, Ray McGraw, Chris Ashbach, Ed Werner, and Mayor Aplikowski. Staff:
Community Development Director Karen Barton.
Approval of Minutes
Bruce Kunkel moved to approve the minutes. Ray McGraw seconded. Motion carried.
Business Outreach and Retention Sub-Committee Report
Kevin Kelly stated that the sub-committee recommended conducting outreach efforts to all
businesses in Arden Hills with 10 or more employees. He estimated that there are approximately
130 businesses that fall into that category. This would constitute the top 20%of businesses in
Arden Hills and would give each of the EDC members approximately 10 businesses to contact.
• Dale Beane suggested reaching out to smaller businesses via direct mail or through our
newsletter. Chris Ashbach concurred.
Rob Davidson commented that excluding businesses with fewer than 10 employees would
exclude businesses like his. He stated that he felt we should also include smaller businesses that
have a large sphere of contact.
Dale stated that the EDC could run through the list at a later meeting to make sure we include
these companies.
Kevin Kelly stated that this list would be for the breakfast meeting kick-off.
Other Business
Karen Barton gave a brief update on the status of the TCAAP purchase.
The Mayor indicated that there are two vacancies on the City Council and also gave a brief
update on the sale and redevelopment of the old city hall/public works site.
Review of Final Draft Economic Development Stratep_y
Bruce Kunkel stated that he felt the Economic Development Plan overall was very well done. It
• incorporated the ideas for a new-world economy.
Chair Kunkel asked if anyone felt there would be an issue if we did not complete our review of
the plan today.
