Organization
Questions in this section will help us to address our organizational structure for
economic development.
5) 1 feel Arden Hills is well staffed to support an economic development program.
Agree: 15%
Disagree: 27%
Don't Know: 58%
Comments:
After the arms plant development choices
2. Not enough experience to evaluate a major project. That goes for the Council as well as city manager and
staff.
Za It de ends on the program scope.
I'm not aware of what resources and staff the city alrady has.
Not familiar enou h with overall staffin and an re uirements.
I don't know enough about Arden Hills government to answer this, but I have to say that I am impressed
with what they seem to be able to accomplish with the limited bud ets that local qovernments have today.
7, I believe that we do not need an economic development staff because we do not need economic
develo ment
Don't know at all.
I'm sure more help the better. at least a consultant woul dbe nice for the armory site
The city council is not capable of understanding its role in the process. It micromanages in the extreme. It
is totally unwilling to expend the infrastucture funds necessary to make the community attractive to
business.
De ends on the economic development goals that the Cit pursues.
need more staff to accomplish this
Given the size of the staff and its background in city govt. I would guess that it needs to be buttressed by
consultants who s ecialize in eco dev.
Every government agency needs more staff and in this case, one dedicated to well thought out and planned
develo ment
I am not sure if we have enough staff on hand to handle a lar a development project such as TCAAP.
TCAAP is the cities prominent economic development opportunity. Staff have left in recent months due
primarily to the city councils inaction in moving TCAAP forward.TCAAP development is a monumental task
and I don't feel confident of the current staffs ability to adequately deal with the situations that are likely to
occur and to properly lead the development effort to a conclusion that is best suited for Arden Hills
We seem to lose good people who had the ability to drive these opportunities.
Um... staff turnover may be hampering our cause. Are we finally done with that?Over dinner with someone
on the staff of a neighboring community, I learned that our city may have a hard time attracting applicants
due to some of the staffing problems.
We are to small a community to take on large scale tasks. Our staff is typically entry level and does not
stay on long enough. If you want to do large scale development you should consider becoming a larger city
throu h merger.
24. Multiple staff changes, especially in the planning and development area suggest that newly hired personnel
do not sense that City leadership supports progressive economic development but, rather, are more
interested in keeping taxes low. Under current market conditions, a City with a forward looking,
ro ressive development vision cannot have it both ways.
Arden Hills Economic Development Survey
June — July 2006 Based Upon 76 Responses
