6) 1 would like to see the city add staff in order to increase its economic development
effort.
Agree: 30%
Disagree: 24%
Don't Know: 46%
Comments:
At what cost?
tToomchm0ne
staff alread . Besides, no com etent erson would come to Arden Hills.
osts
Ittn
s on the program scope.
Aon't think the City needs to be proactive about this
§ see comment above
Ma be necessary.
$, All levels of government have been operating at the "cut 5%" mentality for the past 15 years. I believe that
this philosophy has led to poorly maintained roads, facilities, technology, and has elevated deferred
maintenance to levels where government may not catch up again.
Residents think the city should decrease the economic development staff, because there is no need for
economic develo ment.
Ewecan't
necessary, es. I just don't know if we have the manpower now to do that.
be complacent
MAINTAIN IT AT CURRENT LEVEL
Again, if the city council continues to not function as a governing body but rather as a micromanaging body,
addin staff will accomplish nothing other than adding cost.
The city is nopt big enough to justify a full time eco dev persion. The as is better farmed out to
consultants.
Staff dedicated to the TCCAP develo ment would be a ood addition.
I support additional staff to perform studies which should be taken to show how much development the
citizens of the cit desires. After findin that, the positions should be cut or added to reflecting the results.
I agree with the understanding that I also expect the city to wisely control the acquisition of additional staff
while Qrowina the skillsets of the current staff base.
The issue is not the size of the staff. Its an issue of capability.
As long as we stay small we are sustainable. You will not be able to raise the tax base enough to cover the
costs in the short term. The state legal taxation format simply does not allow it.The arsenal makes no
sense for any current member of the community and is impractical unless we have a larger community base
to draw on. We would be better off to wait and develop practical transportation within the city.
2=& This would depend on how the newt reactivated EDC and the current development staff work together.
, Lets give our new city staff 1 year to prove themselves. This is the first time for this type of input. The right
develo ment or PR person can make a bigdifference.
Present staff is doing a good job, but in some special cases, it may be well to hire outside consultants with
s ecial skills
* It would be better to see if the current staff can do the 'ob before a ng more people.
2.& again it would depend on the issues involved as I said in the number five comment.
Before addin staff it is im ortant to have a good idea of the duties and expectations of the position.
Arden Hills Economic Development Survey
June — July 2006 Based Upon 76 Responses
