II <br />[l <br />11 <br />1 <br />' " V Page. three. <br />The First Regular School Board Meeting - 16 April 1973 Elaine Shore - Reporter <br />The Board approved a resolution in regards to the School Board Election, naming the polling places, <br />judges and dates for the election of two vacated school board positions. Election day was set for <br />Tuesday, May 15th and a resolution to establish a special election for a seven -member school board <br />was to be held at the some time. A date for the canvassing of election ballots was set for May 15th <br />at 9:00. <br />A contract was approved for the use of the old Bethel College by the Mounds View School District. <br />The Board also approved the sale of bonds in the amount of $2,300,000 to the low bidder :at the <br />interest rate of 4.9616 by Piper, Jaffray and Hopwood. <br />A report on the Parent Advisory Councils was heard and it was felt that the goals and purposes of <br />the groups should be more clearly defined and that there should be a commitment in writing from the, <br />Board, Superintendent and Cluster Directors, to the effect that they would be willing to follow its' <br />recommendations. <br />The Second Regular School Board Meeting 23 April 1973 Elaine Shore, Reporter <br />The School Calendar for 1973-74 was approved. (September 4th first day of school for students. <br />December 22nd - January 4th winter recess. January 7th school reconvenes. Spring vacation: <br />April 11, 12 and 15th. June 6th - half day for students (last day). <br />The use of school facilities was approved with the priority list to include -Young Life as -well as Boy <br />Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, YM and YWCA, etc. <br />Irondate and Mounds View Counselors for the Drug Intervention and Counseling programs reported , <br />that'they are ahead of other districts by 1 to 2 years in their approach to problems of drug abuse and <br />recommendations were made for further improvements. <br />4 <br />.A -report was heard by the Board on transportation of students within the district and, thogh the study <br />indicated that using district owned buses is more economical, it was recommended that we use <br />privatedly owned transportation because the initial expense for the purchasing of a fleet would cost <br />$767,500 - $1,215,400; which is not realistic at this time. It was suggested that an effort be made <br />to reduce the number of non -eligible students by increasing the walking distances to elementary <br />schools.
