Published by The Arden Association
• No. 93 December 1975
m
TThe November 3 Open House at the Village Hall
O sponsored by the Arden Hills' League of Women
Voters was a well -attended success. Thanks
to all who came, and especially to the League
Ladies for their efficient organizing, and to
CN Village Officials, Staff and Committee mem-
bers who generously gave their time to be
Rthere and answer questions.
I.....Several village residents commented the
EI Open House idea deserved to be an annual, or
semi-annual event..... Possibly cooperative -
Ra • ly sponsored by Council/League/Arden Associ-
• • ation? .....
During the Open House a number of people ex-
pressed interest in serving on Committees -
welcome words to the Mayor and Councilmen who name Committee members effec-
tive in January. If you have considered volunteering for a Committee, or
just wish to know more about their structure and functions and how appoint-
ments are made, please call Clerk/Administrator Charlotte McNiesh at 633-
5676. Residents are our Village's resources. Your talents and concern
are vital ingredients in the orderly growth and development of the Arden
Hills community - please share them.
Robert W. Anderson, Chairman, Parks & Recreation Committee sends
lowing remarks concerning that Committee's budget and development
the fol -
plans:
"Our budget has been approved by the Council. I would say that generaiiy
the Parks & Rec. Department was given sufficient funds to provide a good
park program. We did, however, run into one difficulty. All the Park De-
velopment Funds ($12,000) were transferred from a category which was fund-
ed from tax levies to a category which is funded by developers of Industrial,
Commercial and some residential property. This fund was used originally for
land acquisition only. Now the monies will be shared between purchase of
land and development of it. (This saves every tax unit .44 mills or approx-
imately 5.2% of the Village portion of the property tax).
"But the drawback, as I see it, is that it puts park development in direct
competition with park purchases. Since it is our priority at this time to
purchase land so we can have it at our disposal at a later time for devel-
opment, I think the Committee will probably become very conservative in de-
velopment plans. We do not want to risk losing an opportunity to purchase
