a prospective park when that opportunity arises. Since we will be attempt-
ing to distribute our priorities very carefully, the Parks and Recreation
Committee would appreciate your ideas on the developments you would like to
see in your park. Please call the Village Hall (633-5676) to obtain the
date and time of our next meeting, or talk to John Buckley, Parks and Rec.
Director for the Village, at the same number."
The conceptual proposals for parks development displayed at the Hall
at the Open House (passive recreation areas vs. active recreation areas vs.
combination -type plans) drew considerable interest. The Parks & Ree. Com-
mittee plans to hold neighborhood meetings early in the coming year to gain
input from residents close to the parks to be developed soon..... More on
these meetings as plans for them are made .....
Right now though, the youngsters at Lake Johanna_Elem-
,entary School have asked Parks & Rec. for help in naming
a park -- the 11.5 acres of low land north of the Luth-
eran Church on New Brighton Road, long referred to as
"the hazelnut patch".
Enclosed in this month's Town Crier is the schedule for the Park & Rec.
Dept's winter activities. Sign up by calling John Buckley at the Hall.
He'll be waiting for your calls and your suggestions for naming the above-
mentioned park site.
Last month's T.C. issued a HELP WANTED for the Human Rights Commission.
Some excellent responses to that, proven by the following sent to the Crier
by Lon Perrin: "Calling all Arden Hills citizens or residents of near -by
areas employed in Arden Hills who are willing to devote approximately four
hours a month to the well-being of our Village. That's not too much to ask,
is it? Here's how: Effective next January 1 the Arden Hills Human Rights
Commission, a volunteer committee whose chief responsibility is to advise
Council on long range programs to improve community relations in the Village,
will have openings for three additional members, to be appointed by the Coun-
cil. If you are willing to pay just a bit more than mere lip service to
your community, here's your opportunity. Or, if you find it impossible to
become involved, you very likely know of a friend or neighbor whom you can
recommend. In either event, call the Commission Chairman, Dick Ericson at
633-8275 or Charlotte McNiesh at the Village Halla
"Recently appointed to the Commission area Gar Kachel, who chaired the St.
Anthony Human Rights Commission before'he moved to Arden Hills; Mrs. Lucy
Lieu, Chinese-American with an impressive educational background as the re-
sult of study in Formosa and at Winona State University, and L. L. Perrin,
former newspaperman and retired manager, advertising and public relations,
Northern Pacific Railway."
Note: Mr. & Mrs. Perrin are residents at Presbyterian Homes. Did you know
that the segment of the population known as "the elderly" comprises the
largest 'minority group' in Arden Hills? Congratulations on Mr. Perrin's
recent appointment to the Human Rights Commission.
