Doug Barthany, Dennis Foerster and Stephen McKeon. In order to e
P get to know
these people better, I sent questionnaires to each of them asking, among other
things, "Why in the world do you want to be mayor/councilman in Arden Hills?"
Here are some of the answers plus other facts and comments:
;Henry J. Crepeau. Jr. is 66, lives on Siems Court, and is VP -Sales Manager for
Ramaley Printing Co. His children are both grown. He's lived in AH for 27 yea
and moved herebecause it is "quiet, peaceful, green and fresh". Nothing particul
larly 'bugs" him about the city and he feels it is a "beautiful place to live
and raise a family". He would like to be Mayor again "to keep it as nice as it
is and to contribute as much as I am able". He does not smoke or own a dog or '
a snowmobile. (OK, so I asked some weird questions!)
Maryann Benson is 42, lives on County Road E with her husband Allan, and raises
foster children. Currently she has five (51) teen-agers. She has lived in AH ,
over 15 years and likes AH's "people and the businesses, and their interest in
our city". She moved here for the "nice, quiet town and friendly people". What
'bugs' her is "losing our Police Dept, with our city growing as it is". She
wants to be Mayor to "listen to what people have to say about things and to try
to do the best job I can for them". Youth, families, and schools are also im-
portant. The Bensonsown a toy poodle, but no snowmobile. She smokes Winstons.
Charlie Crichton turned 51 on the day he filled out my questionnaire. He and
his wife Katharine live on Valentine Ave., and Charlie is a grandfather several
times over. He works for CDC and is responsible for CDC's own computer operations
in the U.S. and Canada. Charlie's lived in AH since 164 and moved here origina
ly to be close to Control Data. He says he likes AH now because "it has almost l
everything and it's small enough that each of us can help determine what happens".
He wants to be Councilman again because "I'm getting old enough to know that if
Itm not willing to make the 'right' things happen, nobody will. And the wrong
people will make the 'wrong' things happen for our Village". Charlie owns a
.golden retreiver, a snowmobile outside the city, and smokes cigarettes. The o
thing that 'bugs' him about Arden Hills is the mosquitoes. -11
Bob Woodburn is 48, lives on Ingerson Court with his wife Sally, and has three
children. He is a pathologist for Miller Hospitals and has lived in AH for 18
years. He says he was "just lucky" in moving to AH, but now likes it primarily '
because of "the people -their clearheadedness, friendliness, and willingness to
work for AH". What 'bugs' Bob most about AH is the way it is cut up geographic-
ally, Bob says, "With my experience in public works, public safety, negotiati
fire, police & public works contracts, working with watershed problems and main
taining our low, stable tax rate, I feel that I can be of further use to the
Village". Woodburns have a miniature schnauzer but no snowmobile.
Dennis Foerster. 27, lives on Todd Drive with his wife Diana, and is President
of North Star Security, Inc. They have lived in AH for 9 months and moved here
because AH offered "an opportunity to be close to the cities, and yet enjoy
country living". He also says that every community has its problems and you can
not please everyone. He wants to become Councilman to become involved with
affairs of the Village and to help with the decision-making. Mr. Foerster adds,
"I am involved, through business, very closely with crime and fire prevention.
I will work as a councilman to see that life and safety and crime prevention wi.
be of utmost importance to the decisions made for the Village of Arden Hills."
Doux Barthany is 55, lives on Jerrold, has a 21 -year-old son and a daughter get
ting married next month. He moved to AH in 1955 and likes everything about the
place, particularly its "homey atmosphere". The only thing that 'bugs' Mr. Bar-
thany at all is our current Council; he feels they are somewhat unresponsive to
the wishes of the residents. When elected, Mr. Barthany would have an agenda I of upcoming Council meetings published each week in the Town Crier or New
Brighton Bulletin to let the public know what is going on. Doug smokes cigaret-
tes, has no snowmobile, and the dog will leave home when the daughter does. He
still prefers to call Arden Hills a "village" rather than a "city".
Stephen McKeon and Howard Pipkorn did not return my questionnaire it time for
the printing deadline, and I could reach neither of them by telephone..
