I know it's very difficult to make a voting decision based on such sketchy
information, but the League of Women Voters is sponsoring a Candidates' Meeting
just for our Arden Hills' candidates on Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m, at our Village
Hall. Hopefully, all of these candidates will be there, and it will be a super
opportunity to ask questions and figure out just which candidates support your
views the best. Do plan to attend.
There will be a special showing of Bethel College's Christmas production
"Amahl and the Night Visitor" for residents of our north suburban area on Dec. 3
at 7:30 p.m. It will be held in the Bethel gym and the cost is $3.00. This
is sort of a goodwill gesture from Bethel to let the people who live around them
become better acquainted with the college. If you have any questions, feel
free to call their Community Relations Director John Bell Wilson at 641-6233.
(Although,I sure hope you have better luck reaching someone at that number than
I have had the three times I've called.
The Oct. 2 Public Safety Committee meeting at the Village Hall concerning
the Northwest Youth Services Bureau was quite well attended, with over 30 people
in the Council chambers. However, when you consider there were 5 speakers, 4
Council members, 5 Public Safety Committee people, 2 stenographers, 4 from the
Finance Committee and 3 staff members from the Youth Services Bureau, it's ob-
vious why there was such a crowd. The question is whether or not Arden Hills
should help fund this Bureau for the coming year.
The purpose of the Youth Services Bureau is to serve youth in the North
Suburban area as a job referral service and as a youth counseling service. Up
until the arrival of the YSB two years ago, the only way the Sbs riff's Depart-
ment had to handle kids in trouble was to "warn and release" them, or to turn
them over to the courts system. There are many kids that really need a sort of
in-between program, which the YSB can provide.
All of the speakers, which included Wayne Foxx from the County Welfare Of-
fice, Ms, J. Mincceskie from the Corrections Bureau, and Capt. Spencer of the
Sheriff's Office, seemed to feel that the YSB is doing a good and necessary job
in our area. The Public Safety Committee has not yet made its recommendation
to the Council however.
POTPOURRI: At AH Precinct 1, one voter who attempted to register on primary
election day was turned down. It seems he had just moved into our area and had
not yet changed the address on his driver's license. He had no other means of
identification and apparently could'not round up anyone to vouch for him. The
moral of the story is that if you want to register on election day, come pre-
pared to prove your identity and address..... This last amount will be put toward fire protection in the city......
Would you believe another idea for the empty gas station at Cleveland and D?
This is for a glass sales and replacement service business......
Received two calls this month about the lack of visibility of police cars
in the Mobile Home court north of 96. The question is, can we afford more pat-
rolling and do we really need it? ...... The movie "Foolin' Around", which is
filming in the Twin Cities, asked Mayor Crepeau if they could shoot some scenes
at the intersection of Cnty. Road D.
