i
Published by The Arden Association
No. 125 March -April 1979
T "0 the snow, the beautiful snow,
Filling the sky and the earth below.
O Over the house -tops, over the street,
Over the heads of the people you meet,
Dancing, Flirting, Skimming along,
Beautiful snow, it can de nothing wrong."
'----from "Beautiful Snow" 1869) by
CN
John Whittaker Watson (1824-1890)
The Arden Hills Public Works Department is
Inot sure that Mr. Watson's verse is entirely
Icorrect. Apparently when you have to clear as
many miles of roads as does Public Works, and
R as often, snow becomes something less than
• • a joy,
' • . • Actually though, according to Supervisor
• Bud Johannsen, it's not the snow that's causing
the trouble as much as the parked cars. For
some reason (more snow? more people?) there
has been an unusual number of cars in the way of the plows this year; so many,
in fact, that Arden Hills has had to stop warning people to move their cars
and simply give them a tag. This has resulted in several irate calls to the
Village Hall. But please understand the reasons for these tages we simply
cannot have cars left in the streets when the plows come past. Bud said there
was one case where there were cars parked on both sides of the.,;street and the
' plow could not even get pastl
The rule says that you must keep your parked car off the street from the
time a snowfall reaches 2" in depth until the street has been cleared by the
plows. Also, there can be no on -street parking in Arden Hills for over 6 hours
at a stretch. The problems are particularly difficult in construction areas
where there are an additional number of workmen's vehicles. At any rate, as
the winter gets longer and the streets become narrower, the road -clearing job
' becomes harder and we citizens must do our part.
There have also been several complaints at the Village Hall about people
who snow -blow their driveways and dump the snow into the street. This is
clearly illegal, besides being inconsiderate, so let's watch it.
Editor's comments I hope by the time this issue reaches you that the
entire subject will be passe. However, March is very often a heavy snow month
around here, and of course there is always next yearl So do keep these things
in mind.
A long-haired female calico cat has been found in the area of the Town-
houses. She was described as being rather old but very well-mannered with
'white paws, stomach, and chin. If anyone is missing such a lovely animal, give
a call to Nancy Krupa at 636-51689 and she will put you on the trail.
e * e e
' The April 5th meeting of the Arden Hills Human Rights Commission is
4cheduled to study the problem of job discrimination in the areas of released
offe Aers and chemical abusers. The May meeting will consider special problems
of the aged.
e * e
