7s00 p.m, in the Academic Center lounge. A discussion will follow if you care
to stay.
The Arden Hills Parks and Recreation series of Family Movies continues at
Valentine Hills School with "Mr. Superinvisible" on March 9 and "The Barefoot
Executive" on March 16. These films are shown on Thursdays at 7500 p.m. and
the cost is 50¢ per person.
From the Parks Departments Woodpile inspection is due to bwgin sometime
in April, so be sure all your dead elm wood is gone by then.
The Parks Department is also working on the planned walking trail for the
Chatham development. They want to begin construction this spring; the cor-
ridors to reach the trail -are already in. A sub -committee has been formed
to consider future trails for the city in general.
The Arden Hills City Council has voted not to help fund the North Sub-
urban Youth Services Bureau for this year. This private agency treats or
counsels youth for acts for which they would otherwise go to court; private
psychologists and psychiatrists are one alternative to this voluntary program.
Concern was expressed by the Council whether this program was of more
benefit to AH residents than any other given program might be. The Council
also thought the program might be better subsidized as a judicial system item
or else purchased privately. The Council was not sure this type of thing is
a Village responsibility and that it might also be a possible duplication of
effort by other agencies.
At any rate, the vote was 4 to 1 not to help fund the YSB this year. The
Finance Committee had recommended that AH participate in the YSB funding; the
Public Safety Committee recommended against it.
By the time you receive this Town Crier, the Planning Commission will
already have held its public hearing concerning the change in design of the
apartments to be built north of Hunter's Park. The original plan called for
four 18 -unit buildings designed as a buffer between the residential area of
Hunter's Park and the business area south of County Road E. The builders now
want to erect one 72 -unit structure, primarily because it would be cheaper (and
thus the rents could be cheaper), and also because it would be more efficient
energywise. The Planning Commission suggested that perhaps two buildings
would be better visually and the developers agreed to this, but a public hearing
is necessary because of the change.
If the Planning Commission made a recommendation at the March 7 meeting,
it will probably come up at the Council on March 12.
