Last year, a proposal by Twin City Christian Homes to build retirement apartments for the elderly was turned down; this proposal is for R-1 single family dwellings. Kraus -Anderson, a building firm, is interested in an office -warehouse on part of a 5.8 acre site west of Round Lake and south of 96. They must relocate their downtown Minneapolis site immediately to make way for the domed stadium. The City Planner suggested that Kraus -Anderson discuss their proposed industrial operation with the Planning Commission before making actual application to build. Ground has been broken for the new Land 0' Lakes complex on Lexington and F, and Mutual Service has moved into its new Home Office at 2 Pine Tree Drive. Mutual rive. Mutual Service has decided not to change its name, as once bad been consideredg but instead to emphasize the MSI initials for identification. Apparently every insurance company in the world has either the word "Mutual" or "Service" in its name. (Editor's notes I can understand the problem. Whenever I tell anyone that my husband works for the Minnesota Mutual Life Insurance Company, they say how nice it must be to have his office here in Arden Hills now!) Because of all this building in the City (and inflation too, of course,) the total market value of all taxable real estate in AH has increased from $103 million in 1978 to $121 million in 1979 to $162 million in 1980. (These last two are estimated.) GARAGE SALES Did you know it is against City ordinance to hold a garage sale in Arden Hills without a permit? There is no fee for such a permit, and an application ,may be obtained by phone. Just call the Village Hall at 633-5676• FREEWAY RINK The Parks Committee last spring considered closing Freeway hockey rink and moving it elsewhere because of the limited parking available there. It is also an extremely small rink. (Although, my husband says when you are flooding 1 the thing in January at midnight, it seems big enough.) Anyway, after some research, the Committee decided to leave the rink where it is because of the extremely high neighborhood useage for both hockey and b roomball. It will probably not be scheduled for many league games however. WALKING TRAIL SIGNS The new signs to mark Arden Hills' walking A 'trails are really nice: wooden, about 5' tall, with both the Arden Hills logo and the inter- national symbol of a hiker. It was suggested for us armchair types that the figure resembles a cardiac patient with a cane and oxygen tank, but the Parks Director insists it's really a hiker with a climbing stick and backpack. 1POTPOURRI Public Works is in the market for a $58,000 Four Wheel Drive- Articulated 'Rubber -Tired Tractor Loader. There are 13 tennis courts in Arden Hills, not counting the ones at Bethel.., The Public Works Department is also considering the purchase of a new welder l which not only will repair metal but can be used to defrost frozen water lines in the winter... *,*The Edgewater Overlay, from Lexington to the Odd Fellows Lodge on Lake Josephine has been completed for around $4000......City Treasurer ' Donald Lamb attended a Finance Officers' Conference in Michigan in June......
