City of Arden Hills Personnel Policy Effective February 29,2016 <br />PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT POLICY <br />Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for professional <br />development activities by City staff. <br />Policy: City staff is encouraged to participate in professional development and training <br />activities and programs sponsored by their respective professional organizations and <br />other groups that sponsor programs relevant to local government. These programs not <br />only improve knowledge of local government and provide important networking <br />opportunities, but offer staff the opportunity to obtain innovative and new ideas for their <br />functional area. <br />Exempt City staff shall have the opportunity to attend state conferences and other <br />applicable state events of their respective professional organizations on an annual basis. <br />Staff may participate in other locally provided training and activities as time and resources <br />allow. The Personnel Committee may limit the amount of attendees to conferences per <br />their discretion. <br />Exempt City staff shall have the opportunity to attend the national conference of their <br />respective professional organization every other year as approved by the City <br />Administrator. <br />City staff shall adhere to applicable provisions of the personnel policy with regard to <br />reimbursable expenses. <br />69
