N <br /> Guide to Giving <br /> E <br /> E <br /> 0 <br /> The Saint Paul Foundation and its statewide affiliate, Minnesota Community Foundation, represents the <br /> vision and charitable interests of thousands of donors who have been able to fulfill their individual charitable <br /> ° goals and, at the same time, build charitable capital to meet the current and emerging needs of their <br /> N <br /> > communities. <br /> 0) <br /> TYPES OF FUNDS <br /> "' Most donors create their own funds within the Foundation. The following types of funds can be created to <br /> serve the diverse interests of donors to a foundation. <br /> DONOR ADVISED FUNDS — Donor advised funds allow the donor or others designated by the donor to <br /> make recommendations to the Foundation regarding charitable grants from the fund. A donor's wishes are <br /> always considered, but final determination on all grants is the responsibility of the directors of the <br /> Foundation. <br /> • <br /> UNRESTRICTED FUNDS — Unrestricted funds are the most flexible and most responsive to changing <br /> community needs. The donor leaves decisions on the charitable uses of the fund to the directors of the <br /> Foundation. Unrestricted funds allow the Foundation to respond most readily to emergency situations and <br /> Z O unanticipated needs. <br /> Q <br /> o FIELD OF INTEREST FUNDS —Field of interest funds support broad areas of charitable interest selected <br /> Z by the donor at the time the fund is established. For example, areas of interest can include adult literacy, <br /> � children's needs or scholarships.
