RAMSEY COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES <br /> April 12, 2005 <br /> RAMSEY COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT <br /> 2015 NORTH VAN DYKE STREET <br /> MAPLEWOOD, MN 55109 <br /> Main Floor Conference Room <br /> The regular meeting of the Ramsey County Parks and Recreation Commission was called to order by <br /> Chair Hanson at 6:08 p.m., at the Ramsey County Parks and Recreation Department, 2015 North Van <br /> Dyke Street, Maplewood, Minnesota. <br /> Members Present: Michele Hanson, Jonathon Kusa, Phil Jenni, Gale Pederson, Richard Straumann <br /> and JoAnne Van Guilder <br /> Members Absent: Deb Falkowski and Terry Huntrods <br /> Staff Present: Greg Mack, Larry Holmberg, Jody Yungers, John Moriarty and Cheryl Johnson <br /> APPROVAL OF AGENDA <br /> Chair Hanson asked for a motion to approve the agenda. Ms. Pederson moved, seconded by <br /> •Mr. Kusa, that the agenda be approved. Motion carried. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> Chair Hanson asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the March 8, 20C15 meeting. Mr. <br /> Straumann moved, seconded by Mr. Kusa, that the minutes of the March 8, 2005 meeting <br /> be approved as mailed. Motion carried. <br /> 2005 COOPERATIVE DEER MANAGEMENT IMPLEMENTATION PLAN <br /> The 2005 Cooperative Deer Management Program was distributed. Mr. Moriarty gave an <br /> overview of the program which included the harvest information for the fall of 2004; the <br /> proposed implementation program for the fall of 2005; aerial survey results; and statistics on <br /> deer/car collisions within Ramsey County. Ms. Pederson moved, seconded by Mr. <br /> Straumann, that the Commission recommend approval of the 2005 Cooperative Deer <br /> Management Program. Motion carried. <br /> PUBLIC NATURE INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS AT THE TWIN CITIES ARMY AMMUNITION <br /> PLANT <br /> Mr. Moriarty said the department is partnering with the Friends of St. Paul and Ramsey County <br /> Parks and Trails and the Minnesota National Guard to present a series of nature hikes at the <br /> Arden Hills Army Training Site. This is mainly the undeveloped portion of the old TCAAP site. <br /> The hikes will highlight the wildlife and habitats of this unique site. The Minnesota National <br /> Guard uses the site for training exercises but it is also managed for its natural resources and <br /> .wildlife. It contains the largest prairie area in Ramsey County, as well as high-quality wetlands <br /> and oak woods. It is home to a variety of birds, including nesting trumpeter swans, loons, <br /> osprey, sandhill cranes, turkeys, bobolinks and meadowlarks. The program schedule is as <br /> follows: <br />
