Warming House Status Memo
r March 31, 2006
Page 3 of 5
* Rental of a mobile unit: $379.70/month (approx. $1,139.1 0/season)
* Delivery/set up fee of$210.00 per season.
The estimated annual cost for this option would be $1,349.10 per site plus the
one time cost of electrical relocation of $3,825.00 for Freeway Park and
$1,600.00 for Hazelnut Park. We would incur a$285.00 fee per site for a 20 yard
dumpster for tear down. Tear down figures do not include labor.
For a specific breakdown of estimated costs for this option, please refer to the
attached estimates. ,
(3) OPTION C: Build a small portable building that can be stored off site during the off
season and brought in during the rink season.
This has been done for the City of St. Michael. The building was built in 1999 at a
cost of$5,000. Mr. Ed Haller, Pubic Works Superintendent for St. Michael, referred
specifications of
Details of the use. s
to the building as an oversized ice fishing house." p
the building are below:
* 16 foot wide by 20 foot long, vinyl on the outside and plywood on the inside. It
has one door and two windows.
* St. Michael Public Works has a certified carpenter on staff'that was responsible
for this project. It was constructed during the winter months.
* It has skids, in place of wheels because it can be dragged to the winter location,
approximately 500 feet.
* It is only used during ice skating season.
* It has a heater and one toilet stool. They pay BIFFS, Inc. to hook up a waste
water tank, similar to what exists in an outdoor toilet.
* If they had to build it again, they would make it longer and use wheels instead of
the skids.
The total estimated overall cost for this option is$8,825.00 for Freeway Park and
$6,600.00 at Hazelnut Park,which includes a one time building cost of$5,000 per site
plus a one time cost of$3,825.00 for electrical relocation at Freeway Park and
$1,600.00 at Hazelnut Park. We would incur a $285.00 one time fee per site for a 20
yard dumpster for tear down. These figures do not factor in building or tear down
labor costs.
One question that has come up with this option is: where do we store the buildings?
Currently, there is no space at the Ramsey County/Arden Hills Maintenance Facility to
accommodate the buildings.
