Parks and Recreation Committee <br />• Tuesday, June 22, 1999 <br />7:00 p.m. - Arden Hills City Hall <br />Call to Order and Roll Call. <br />Chairman Don Messerly called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Those attending included Rich <br />Straumann, Parks and Recreation Director Tom Moore; Council liaison Lois Rem; Steve Zilmer, <br />Patrick Krenn, and Don Tix (three residents who have expressed interest in joining the committee); <br />Graham Stones from BRW; and Bethel College representative Bruce Kunkel. <br />2. Approve May 25, 1999 Minutes. <br />Rich Straumann noted the correct spelling of his name. The minutes were approved as corrected. <br />3. Council Report. <br />Lois Rem reported that Council approved purchase of the Arden Oaks Playstructure as <br />recommended by the Committee, including contractor installation (6/14/99). Council will be <br />reviewing the City Ordinances concerning Lakes, Trees, Parks (Chapter 7) at an upcoming <br />meeting. <br />4. Introduction - Michelle Olson. <br />Tom Moore introduced Michelle Olson who began work as Program Supervisor on May 27. He <br />and the Committee thanked her for her hard work and successful planning for the June 5 Day in the <br />Park. <br />• 5. Day in the Park Review. <br />Tom Moore reported the highest attendance yet for this event. Everyone reported hearing many <br />enthusiastic comments on the event. Staff and the Committee are looking forward to even better <br />results for next year's event. <br />6. Arden Oaks Play Structure Update. <br />Tom Moore noted that Miracle was awarded the bid. He visited the park with them today. They <br />plan delivery within 5-6 weeks; installation should be done in 4-5 days. He also showed the <br />Committee recent data on the neighborhood as plotted by the GIS program that the City <br />participates in through the I-35W Corridor Coalition and noted that this type of information will <br />provide us with invaluable information for planning improvements and programming throughout <br />the city. <br />7. Arden Manor Park Project Update. <br />Graham Stones presented a revised cost projection. Reducing the area for upgraded fill for green <br />space to approximately 1/2 acre saves approximately $15,000. Sod and seed would cost $2,500. <br />No trees are included in the budget. The Committee decided to send the proposal to Council, <br />recommending it be sent out for bid. <br />Round Lake Trail Extension Update. <br />Tom Moore reported that Council approved sending this proposal out for bid. This is being placed <br />on a "fast track" for completion this year, pending acquisition of necessary easements. Repairs to <br />the existing trail are also planned. <br />9. Bethel College Project Update. <br />Tom Moore presented a combined calendar to show Bethel's projected field times for varsity and <br />intramural teams. The schedule indicates lots of time available for city use. Bruce Kunkel stated <br />
