Parks and Recreation Committee
Tuesday, May 18, 1999
6:30 p.m. - Arden Hills City Hall
Call to Order and Roll Call.
Chairman Don Messerly called the meeting to order at 6:37 p.m. Megan Ricke, Lynette Kreidler,
and Anita Larson constituted a quorum of the committee. Also present were P/R Director Tom
Moore and Council liaison Lois Rem, Committee members Rich Strommen, Dorothy McClung,
and Jim Johnson arrived shortly before 7:00.
2. Minutes of April 27, 1999, meeting were approved.
3. Arden Oaks Play Structure.
The purpose of this meeting was to obtain neighborhood response to three contractors' proposals.
Mr. Moore presented the proposals to the Committee (the neighborhood had been invited to arrive
at 7:00 p.m.) He and the Committee discussed budget issues, including paying the contractor to
install the structure rather than as, in the past, having this done by City Staff. Mr. Moore
described the existing park and structures, noting that the swings are in good condition and do not
need replacing. At 7:15, as no residents had arrived, the Committee discussed the number of
homes in the neighborhood and what the neighbors might want for the park. They also discussed
scheduling a new time to meet with the residents and whether this was a necessary or desirable
option. At 7:30, two residents arrived and noted some difficulty locating city hall. They discussed
the structure options with the Committee and agreed on Miracle #2 proposal. The Committee
formally moved and approved this recommendation. A motion was also approved to increase the
budget to include contractor installation.
Agenda for May 25, 1999.
Bethel Park (information from the College); Arden Manor (questions about drainage into the pond
from the Arsenal property).
County Road F Trail Update.
Mr. Moore described Council's decision to reject the Committee's recommendation to proceed due
to concerns about the flrture of the road and requirements to return grant funds to the state if the
trail were removed.
Adjourn.
The meeting adjourned at 8:04 p.m.
0
