ARDEN HILLS PARKS, TRAILS & RECREATION COMMITTEE 3
• COMPREHENSIVE PLAN DISCUSSION
Greg Ingram of Ingram and Associates presented three ring binders to Committee
Members as a place to keep handouts concerning the Comprehensive Plan.
Mr. Ingram indicated he believes the Parks and Recreation Master Plan is a way to guide
the City into the future.
Chairperson Johnson stated he would like to see a little more uniqueness about the parks
within the City and a more creative use of City land.
Committee Member Tix stated he would like the bike trails within the City to be more
continuous. He asked Mr. Ingram to attempt to make use of the hills and natural terrain
of the City during the creation of the Master Plan. He also asked Mr. Ingram to keep the
small community park feel when planning for the parks.
Committee Member Crassweller indicated the E2 trail is a safety issue and the City needs
to make it happen. He stated he would like to see the trails be more continuous, would
like to see some of the trails not paved to allow for multi-use of the trails, and would like
the City to utilize the right of way in the swampy area to connect the Chatham
neighborhood to Perry Park.
Committee Member Crassweller suggested the Master Plan address usage of the arsenal
property. There are parks that are unique and he suggested better utilizing the natural
topography of the land to the benefit of City residents.
Committee Member Krenn requested the bike trails be more continuous throughout the
City, that no more trails be paved, that the City use playground equipment in the colors of
tan and green rather than brightly colored equipment, and to make sure any playground
equipment installed in the City meets safety requirements.
Committee Member Zilmer stated the trail system is fragmented and should be connected
while keeping as natural a feel for trails and parks as possible.
Council Liaison Larson stated everyone has a different idea for the use of trails in the
parks but the City needs to recognize it can't appease everyone but should try to appease
as many as possible. Council Liaison Larson suggested taking into consideration
facilities available to residents located nearby that the City may not need to replicate in
its own parks.
Mr. Moore indicated it is his goal to help residents of the City better utilize Crepeau Park
as it is a wonderful asset for a City the size of Arden Hills to have a park containing a
nature preserve. Currently this park is not being utilized to its full potential.
•
