Joynes, Sr. City Administrator <br /> FROM: Sue Polka, Public Works Director/City Engineer <br /> SUBJECT: 0.5 MG Water Tower Rehabilitation Project <br /> Final Plans/Ordering Advertisement for Bids <br /> Requested Action <br /> Adopt Resolution 2017-013 Approving Plans and Specifications and Ordering Advertisement for <br /> Bids for the 0.5 MG Water Tower Rehabilitation Project <br /> Background/Discussion <br /> The 2017-2021 Capital Improvement Plan identifies a project to repair and repaint the City's 0.5 <br /> MG water tower located at Cummings Park(Attachment A). The tower last underwent repairs in <br /> 2001. In 2012 the tower was inspected by Kollmer Consultants at which time it was <br /> recommended that repairs and repainting be completed within 1 to 2 years. A copy of the report <br /> is available at City Hall. The south water tower was rehabilitated in 2013 at a cost of$783,250. <br /> Based on recent bids and the scope of work for the tower, the current engineer's estimate <br /> (construction only) for the north tower work is $691,737. The work includes interior structural <br /> repairs, interior coating replacement (including lead based paint removal), exterior structural <br /> repairs and exterior coating. <br /> The preparation of plans and specifications the project was authorized by on April 10, 2017. The <br /> bid documents are now complete and ready for bidding. Adoption of the resolution listed above <br /> will authorize the next step for the project: approval of the plans and ordering the advertisement <br /> for bids. Bids will be received on June 20th. Following the bid opening, the results will <br /> presented to the Council on June 26t' to consider awarding the construction contract. <br /> The bid documents also includes a bid alternate to complete the work in 2018. The City may see <br /> a cost savings as contractors could plan to start the project at the beginning of the next <br /> construction season.
