ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL — APRIL 24, 2017 9 <br />AMENDMENT: Councilmember McClung moved and Mayor Grant second a motion <br />amending Condition 16, allowing each of the building endcaps to have <br />up to eighty square feet of wall signage, with no more than forty <br />square feet per sign. <br />Councilmember Holden asked if the end units would be larger than the interior units. <br />Mr. Roberts stated this was the case. <br />The amendment carried (5-0). <br />AMENDMENT: Councilmember McClung moved and Mayor Grant second a motion <br />adding Condition 17, requiring the developer to add an architectural <br />element or roof steps to the west elevation of the building to more <br />closely reflect the front of the building. <br />The amendment carried (5-0). <br />The amended motion carried (5-0). <br />B. Perry Park and Hazelnut Park Playground Structure Replacement <br />Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka stated the existing play structure at Perry Park was <br />installed in the summer of 1997. The play structure is a steel structure that is showing signs of <br />wear. The wood surrounding the structure is in poor condition and the steel is rusting. The 2016 <br />Capital Improvement Program (CIP) identified the play structure replacement in 2016. <br />Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka explained the existing play structure at Hazelnut <br />Park was installed in the summer of 1997. The play structure has needed multiple repairs in the <br />last two years. The play structure is identified in the CIP to be replaced in 2017. <br />Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka indicated the playground at Perry Park receives <br />heavy use during the adult softball season. The trail connections around Perry Park make it easily <br />accessible for many families in Arden Hills and surrounding communities. It was noted neither of <br />the existing playgrounds meet current accessibility standards or safety guidelines and will be <br />brought into compliance. <br />Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka reported quotes received from <br />Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground were summarized by staff and it was noted the pricing provided <br />in the quotes are as listed in the Minnesota State contract. Staff reported Minnesota/Wisconsin <br />Playground installed the playground structure at Valentine Park. The proposed equipment will be <br />similar in style and colors. The playground at Hazelnut Park receives heavy use from the <br />neighborhood and the City of Arden Hills run Summer Playground Program. In the summer, the <br />park has an average of 50 participants every day. <br />
